Nature Awareness Concert Attracts Tourists

The outdoor concert featuring Sigur Rós and Björk scheduled for June 28 seems to be attracting people from abroad. The free concert will be held in Grasagardurinn(the Botanical Garden of Reykjavík). The aim of the concert is to increase awareness for Icelandic nature. Iceland Express airline recently advertised an offer on the Internet for cheap airfare to Iceland over the weekend and around 600 tickets have already been booked.

Iceland Express is offering a round-trip ticket for ISK 10,000. Lára Ómarsdóttir, a representative of Iceland Express, says it is a dream come true that the largest Icelandic musicians have decided to come together for a free outdoor concert in the capital. Morgunbladid reports.

“It’s [attracting] mostly people around the age of 30. Most are flying from London and the press is very excited. […] it looks like this concert is going to get a lot of media coverage, which is probably something that they [Björk and Sigur Rós] are counting on for the cause.

The Botanical Garden of Reykjavík is located in Laugardalur valley and is meant to accommodate up to 20,000 people. In 2006 Sigur Rós held an outdoor concert in Miklatún park where around 30,000 people showed up, meaning the Botanical Garden will probably be very crowded on June 28.
