there is this pretty nice arty book called "Please yoursELF-Sex with the Icelandic Invisibles" by Hallgerður Hallgrímsdóttir about having sex with "huldufólk” aka elves. the book is hard to find though ...

" Surveys have shown that ten percent of Icelanders believe in the existence of “huldufólk” (the hidden people), dwarfs, spirits and other supernatural beings. Ten percent deny it, but the remaining eighty still refuse to rule out their existence.

Natives to Iceland, elves are very limber, light and strong which makes them excellent sexual partners. Unlike humans, elves have the ability to open up other worlds of sexual encounters. Although Hallgerður does not think they possess supernatural powers, she is sure that having sex with one is magical.

Blizzard on Popular Highland Hiking Trail in Iceland

A full-blown snowstorm raged by Hrafntinnusker, one of the stops on the popular hiking trail Laugavegur between Landmannalaugar and Thórsmörk in Iceland’s southern highlands, early on Monday morning.

When hikers woke up on Monday, the ground had turned completely white, Morgunbladid reports.

The Iceland Touring Association (FÍ), which has a cabin on Hrafntinnusker, warned hikers about the weather through its website, emphasizing the importance of being well-prepared.

FÍ also recommended that hikers check the weather forecast and dress accordingly before they head off to the mountains.

Apparently fall has arrived in Iceland with full force.

Leider kann man bei der "Ásatrúa" nicht Mitglied werden, da "only those foreigner 16 years or older, who have legal residence in Iceland can register themselves into any Icelandic religious organisation. " Zur Not muss es dann eben die "deutschsprachige Vertretung" sein. Ziemlich freakig!

Back in Húsavík!

So, nach einer grandiosen Woche und einem tollen Wochenende zurueck ins Dorf. Bin also wieder erreichbar!

Marathon bzw 10km Ergebnisse sind online. ich bin Platz 1717! Meine Zeit ist "FinishTime" 01:03:26 und "ChipTime": 01:01:07.

das ist grossartig, weil noch weit ausbaubar. kein training, davor der Hike ... naechstemal hoffenlich ijn 55 Minuten :-)

so, schluss mit aktiv-urlaub, jetzt wird gefeiert!

gerade eben "den 10er" mit 01:02:00 gelaufen. das ist grossartig! warum?

weil ich ja nicht trainiert habe in den letzten woche(n) und gestern von dem 4 tages hike zurueckgekommen bin.

von landmannalaugar (so wunderwunder schoe, inkl. bad in den heissen quellen mit volounter-bierchen ("viking lite", billigstes bier hier) im Sonnenuntergang bis þorsmörk ("thors waeldchen"), zwischen 2 Gletschern aufwachend und sich fragend, was ihr eigentlich alle mit euerer kohle und euerem status und euerer nicht vorhandenen zeit machen wollt?

da putzt ich mir lieber weiter meine Zaehnchen in der aufgehenden Sonnen zwischenTindfjallajökull und Eyjafjallajökull ohne viel geld in der tasche ...

ca. 50km in 2 tagen, auch persoenlicher rekord (strecje is auf 4 tage angesetzt) und dann noch ueber den firmvörðuháls-pass mit 1.100 hoehenmeter inklusive nacht in ner Huette, weil Sturm und Nebel aufzog und ich meine Hand nicht mehr vor Augen erkennen konnte.

Am Ende heisst das einmal Island vom hohen Norden der Skálfandi-Bay/Húsavík die Sprengisandur Hochlandpiste runter und dann 65km nach Skogar an Meer gewandert ... schlaegt fast alles, ausser "Overland-Treck", wirklich unglaublich abwechslungsreich und alles wirklich so wie in all den Magazinen, aber ohne Photoshop!

Jetzt endlich ein gutes Fruehstueck in einem der vielen Kaffihús von Reykjavik. ey ist sooo voll mit Menschen!!! Entweder bin ich nach 3 monaten Húsavík schon so ein Landei, aber als ich im Mai hier war nix los ... und beim Natturra KOnzert nicht in die Stadt rein.

Hier tobt heute wirklich der Baer! Ueberall Kunst, Konzerte, Museen umsonst auf, Lesungen, etc. Gleucklicherweise gestern "per Zufall", die schwedischen Kids aus Husavik getrofffn mit dennen heutre abend loseiehen und auf der Huette noch 2 Deutsche getroffen (Jan wohnt auf der Birkenstrasse in Ddorf! kein witz!) mit dennen auch noch ein Bier aussteht.

Und morgen bekommen ich ja Besuch :-)

vorher wird ausgeschalfen (!), dann natuerlich fruehstueck, kaffi und Museuen, um 17 uhr bei eldings WhaleWatschen (mal schauen wie die das hier machen ... ich kann ja das programm in husavik mittlerweile im schlaf, also das guiding und bin bestimmt extrem verwoehnt, was die Wale angeht ...) und danach

... wetter ist hier garnicht gut, mmmmh mal schauen, da wir die erste nacht sinnigerweise in garður zelten wollten ... aber wir haben wohl keine andere wahl! ich geh ma in den bonus noch nen paar tutensuppen und heissen kakao holen :)

und ab Dienstag dann wieder aus Húsavík! Bless!

Und nach dem Lauf: CULTURAL NIGHT

aka "menningarnott". Nach der "Gay Pride" die groesste Veranstaltung des Jahres in Island, bzw Reykjavik.

Reykjavik Culture Night will be held for the 13th time 23rd August.

The event has long since become an essential part of cultural life in Iceland with thousands of people strolling the streets of the city on this exciting and eventful night. Countless cultural institutes such as galleries, ateliers, shops, cafés, churches, restaurants and bars in Reykjavik city centre stay open until late and the celebrations culminate in a large fireworks show. The immensely popular Reykjavik Marathon takes place on the same day.

This year's theme for Reykjavik Culture Night is "City Squares". Squares and hidden corners of the city come alive with various happenings such as theatre, games, music and art.

The icing on the cake will be a large concert at Miklatun Park where some of Iceland's best bands perform between 7pm and 10.30pm.

Ganz Reykjavik feiert und es gibt ueberall Kunst, Musik und Performances, dazu haben Cafes, Geschaefte etc die Nacht durch auf und es gibt ein grosses Outdoor-Konzert!

Leider bin ich ja "alleine" in Reykjavik unterwegs, aber Chnces stehen gut, das ein paar Leutchen aus HUsavik auch aufkreuzen und am Sonntagabend hole ich ja "meine Geaste", Andreas, Sandra und Doro in Keflavik ab ...

Running the 10km at the Glitnir Reykjavik Marathon

So! 10km werde ich ja wohl schaffen, auch wenn meine Zeit wohl beschiessen sein wird! Auch wenn ich vorher KEINE chance habe zu laufen, da ich ja in der Pampass stecke, habe ich mich gerade fuer die 10km Strecke des "Glitnir Marathon Reykjavik" am Samstag morgen angemeldet.
Da ich den Lauf "alleine" mache, wirds wohl kaum Bilder geben ?! anyway, ich schicke meine Laufsachen an das Guesthouse in Reykjavik, wo ich Freitag und Samstag uebernachte. Hoffe das klappt alles!

hatte ja lange ueberlegt, ein T-Shirt zu tragen "a la "stop the killing, save the whales", aber da mein Training und Vorbereitung auf den Lauf beschiessen sind, werde ich genug mit mir selber zu kaempfen haben. Naechstes Jahr, dann!

Made it: I am out of the "office" till next Tuesday

Und es klappt doch! Ich werde montag frueh in den Bus steigen und runterfahren (14h) in die Highlands nach Landmannalaugar und fuer 5 Tage (bis Freitag) runter nach Skógar an die Kueste wanderen. YESSSS!

The Flatey-Weekend!

wie ich schon schrieb, war toll auf Flatey, unglaublich schoene insel, keine touristen, 10 haeuser und rundherum das Meer. Selbst die ueberfahrt war grandios mit "Gimli, dem Fischerboot.

wir haben die ehemalige "School" ausgereaumt, Schutt und Holz, abends dann eine riesen Bonfire drausgemacht und Bier dazu. "Haukur" legte auch noch an und Arved Fuchs kamm auch noch kurz vorbei. Am naechsten Tag weitergearbeitet, den Kamine "zerlegt" und nachmittags eine augebiegen Walk ueber die Insel gemacht. Defintiv mit das beste, was ich hier in Island gemacht habe! Takk fyrir, Oddur Örvar!

Es gibt auch eine Seite ueber seinen "superdog" odin ein englischer Setter, Jaghund, der abgerichtet ist und der Star in Norwegen/Island ist ;-)

Komdu (or details for leaving the rock)

i booked me flights out from this rock, means flying down to Reykjavik on the 1st of October, then taking the plane to Copenhagen on the 4th and heading from there back to Dusseldorf the morning of the 7th.

what does this means? First, i have 3 days in Reykjavik, even a last Friday-"Runtur", next day soaking in at the "Blá Lónið.", flying for 3 days to Copenhagen, have an nice "nights out" on Saturday, too. Some arty museums on Sunday and Shopping for new Glasses on Monday. perfect plan, i would say!

BUT, we all hopefully see us at my place in duesseldorf on the evening of the 7th, cause i have birthday on the 8th.

So I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A " OMG, HE MADE IT BACK HOME, AGAIN" and "B*DAY"- PARTY in once: serving Brennivín, Hákarl or other dishes of þorramatur, incl. hunderts of boring whale pictures to you!

i need to go there: somehow!

one of the many reasons i am here, is hiking. in the last weeks there was so much going on, that i couldn't find time and effort to go into the wild 8besides small staff and ásbergi/dettifoss-walk). a shame!

another problem is, that a lot of the well-marked, well-know tracks are in the south, skaftafell, landmannalaugur, þörsmörk, skogar or up northwest, hornstrandir ...

anyway, time is running fast and i need to find a way to come at least to landmannalaugar, the "overland-track" of iceland.



should be an easy 4-5 days walk, if, of course weather is stable. the only problem is, that it cost me around 150 Euro (Transportation) to do it and i need at least 7 days from landmannalaugar to skogar and back up north (via on night in rey).

and its the tourist season in full bloom, means hundreds of german couples in jack wolfskin or salwea jackets on the trail, talking shit ... :-(

at the end of the month, i am again in reyjavik, my guests are coming and in september, we switch back to our 5days work/2 days off schedule at the museum.

how to find those nice geo-thermal bathing pools?

one of the delights of hanging around in iceland. nice free geo-thermal heated bathing pools! everywhere! but there is one important role, esp. for visitors. you must wash yourself before NAKED (if possible) before entering the pools, cause there is no chlorides eg inside.

must be even gorgeous in wintertime. and remember u don't swim in pools, you let yourself soak in and talk, while having a cold beer!

Sommer, "merchant weekend" & wale

Hier ist der Sommer ausgesprochen: seid ca. eine Woche 20 - 25 grad! ich wuenscht ich waere ein Tourist, muesste nicht arbeiten und koennte entspannt mit dem Auto Island erkunden. Aber auch so freuen wir uns ueber das gute Wetter!

Es scheint, das auch die Wale sich freuen und in letzter Zeit wurde sehr oft von "breachenden" (springen) Humps (Buckelwalen) berichtet. Wie FRank in seinem Kommentar schon vorausagte, so haben Annika und Ich gestern abend _endlich_ einen dabei zugesehen. Einfach UNGLAUBLICH! Ich hatte keine Kamera mit und das war gut so, da ich mich so, nicht hinter der bloeden Kamera verstecke, sondern mit Augen und Herz dabei bin. Aninika hat das ganze auf Video und vielleicht schiebt sie es auf youtube hoch :) HAT SIE !




Vorgestern bin ich zum ersten Mal in meinem Leben 180 km (hin und zurueck) gefahren, nur um ein Kinofilm zu sehen. So ist das also auf dem Land! "Batman" war ok, der Joker grandios und die Fahrerei quatsch. Aber bitte! So ist das hier auf em Dorf!

Dieses Wochenende ist hier "Merchants’ Weekend", dh langes Wochenende fuer alle Islaender, welche raus fahren, Festivals besuchen und bei dem unglaublichen Wetter ihre Insel unsicher machen ... eine schoene Erklaerung liefert wie sooft IcelandReview
